Gear List

Here is a recommended Gear List for winter biking.  Take note of the temperature and what you wore, did it work or was it too much.  Try to remember for your next ride!

FAT BIKE IN GOOD WORKING ORDER – 4 inch tires minimum


  • Boots – water & wind proof, solid sole, need to be able to feel your feet (tuck laces in)
  • Socks*
  • Toe Warmers


  • Base Layer*
  • Wind Proof Layer
  • Pants should have narrow calf/ankle or able to be tucked in to stay away from the chain


  • Base Layer*
  • Light Weight Layers – consider the weather and you will be working because mountain biking is hard!
  • Wind Proof Layer


  • Gloves or Mittens
    • Mittens are warmest and limit mobility
    • Different weights
  • Hand Warmers


  • Helmet
  • Skull Cap
  • Face Protection – face mask or buff
  • Glasses or Ski Goggles


  • Backpack
  • Frame Bag
  • Fanny Pack
    • Space for layers when you get hot
